The best Shopify apps for Dutch webshops in 2026
Which Shopify apps are worth it? A practical selection of apps that Dutch webshops actually use — for reviews, email, shipping, accounting and more.
The Shopify App Store has more than 8,000 apps. That’s overwhelming — and most apps aren’t worth your money. In this article I share the apps we at Web Builders consistently install for new clients, plus a few that are specifically relevant for the Dutch market.
An honest disclaimer: more apps = slower store. Only install what you actually use.
Reviews and social proof
Judge.me — free basic version
Judge.me is the best value-for-money reviews app on Shopify. The free version automatically sends review requests after purchase, displays star ratings on product pages and generates Product Review schema markup for Google.
The paid version (€15/month) adds photo reviews, Q&A and more customisation options. For most stores the free version is sufficient.
Alternative: Stamped.io for stores that also want to combine loyalty programmes.
Email marketing
Klaviyo — the industry standard
For serious e-commerce marketing, Klaviyo is the gold standard. Free up to 500 contacts, then priced based on your list size. The power is in the segmentation: you can send emails based on purchase behaviour, viewed products, order value and more.
At minimum set up:
- Welcome sequence for new subscribers
- Abandoned cart emails
- Post-purchase sequence (thank you + review request)
Shopify Email — for simpler stores
Shopify Email is built-in and free for the first 10,000 emails per month. Fine for newsletters, but lacks the advanced automation of Klaviyo.
Shipping and fulfilment (NL-specific)
Sendcloud — for Dutch and European shipping
Sendcloud integrates with virtually all Dutch and European carriers: PostNL, DHL, DPD, GLS and more. You can set shipping rules, automatically select the cheapest option and send track-and-trace emails to customers. Essential if you ship more than 20 parcels per month.
Price: Free plan available, paid plans from €29/month.
MyParcel — NL alternative
MyParcel focuses specifically on the Dutch market and has a clean Shopify integration. Good alternative if you primarily use PostNL and don’t need international shipping.
Accounting
Exact Online connector (via Beeketing or Coretex)
In the Netherlands most SME businesses use Exact Online or Twinfield for accounting. Shopify apps exist that automatically synchronise orders, customers and invoices with your accounting software. This saves an enormous amount of manual work.
Ask your accountant which system they use and then find the corresponding Shopify integration.
SEO and performance
TinyIMG
TinyIMG automatically compresses your product images on upload, adds alt text and generates SEO metadata. One of the best ROI apps for stores with lots of product images.
Alternative: Crush.pics for pure image compression.
Schema Plus for SEO
Adds extensive structured data to your product pages, collections and blog posts. This helps you get rich snippets in Google (stars, FAQ, breadcrumbs). Read more about Shopify SEO in our dedicated article.
Loyalty and retention
Smile.io — loyalty programme
If you want to reward existing customers and improve retention, Smile.io is the most widely used solution. Customers earn points per purchase, which they can redeem for discounts. Free plan available, premium from €49/month.
What NOT to install
A few popular but problematic apps:
- Countdown timers with fake urgency — undermine trust with customers who see through them
- Pop-ups that appear immediately on arrival — cost conversions and are annoying
- Page builders alongside your theme — extra weight, potential conflicts
Apps vs. custom development
Sometimes an app isn’t the best solution. For functionality you use critically — such as a specific product configurator or an integration with your ERP system — custom development is often better than an app that does 80% of what you need.
At Web Builders we always look first at whether something can be solved natively in Shopify or via a good app. If not, we build it. Read more about integrations and connections on our integrations page.
The conclusion
Start lean: only install the apps you immediately need. The basic set for most Dutch stores consists of: Judge.me, Klaviyo (or Shopify Email), Sendcloud and TinyIMG. Grow from there.
